Cake Accessorized

Are cakes the latest accessory for the fashionable New Yorker?  Have these sweet creations replaced the crossbody hobo bag and faux-fur wrap scarf?  The best way to add a bit of whimsy to your winter wardrobe is to flaunt your ivory buttercream when you show off your new cashmere.  Fondant should match your jewel-tone leather jacket and sugar flowers can be interchanged depending on your mood.  It’s “haute cake for a hot time” this season so you should run, don’t walk to your local baker for the latest fondant looks!

Truth be told, cakes are not quite as commonplace as handbags or earrings and you won’t find a display of them in the Accessory department at Bergdorf’s.  But their importance in relation to a feast or fete should not be overlooked.

The serving of cake signals a sweet finale that ends a gathering.  In the case of a wedding, the cake embodies a wish of health, prosperity and happiness for the couple (until one person smashes a slice in the other’s face—that symbolizes a call to the attorney in the morning.)

So many couples overlook the opportunity that is represented with the wedding cake.  It is almost always photographed, and the flavors and design can be completely customized (as they are at Ron Ben-Israel Cakes.) It is a fashion statement that reflects the uniqueness of the newly-wed couple.  Confectionary Couture should be viewed as the last signature touch to the day of your dreams.

Design inspirations can come from anywhere—from the bride’s gown and the couples’ favorite colors, to the invitation and florals at the wedding.

Some of our cakes have gone to another level of personalization with the addition of a small sugar statue of the couple’s pet next to the cake.

But for those more traditional couples, a monogram of the couple’s initials can signify a personal design choice that makes a sugary impact.

Whatever kind of cake you choose for your wedding or special occasion, do not make the mistake of letting it be an afterthought.  Don’t be afraid to show off your style with an avant-garde fondant color like gunmetal grey or using branches and wooden accents to elevate your cake design.  Your cake can be a sweet fantasy if you’re willing to take a fashionable risk.
