Behind the Scenes-Cake Accessorized

It was a hotter than average summer day when we decided to stand in the middle of a busy New York intersection to capture a wedding cake on-the-go.

Wading through the Garment District residents and workers while struggling not to bump into tourists as they stand gazing at the bright lights of Times Square, our fearless interns carried their 5 tier model back and forth across the street without complaint.

“Is that real?” was a frequently heard question as Sheryl and Samantha waited for the walk signal to come on.  My photography partner on this shoot, Jean-Pierre Uys, was a true renegade  as he stepped in front of waiting traffic to get just the right click of the shutter.

The bus stop was my brain-child, hoping to get the gentleman in the yellow tee to interact with our model on some level.  But he seemed unimpressed with our buttercream beauty and seemingly did not even register our presence as we took shot after shot of our lady in waiting.

Our cake did catch the eye of some people as they strolled by, but no one stopped to get a closer look.  Once again showing that a wedding cake waiting at a bus stop is not that unusual in a city like New York.  Maybe next time we should include a bowl of ice cream?

  1. I love your blog!!! It´s amazing what you do with a cake!! This article reminds me when I traveled to Buenos Aires and walked with my cake in my hands running to go to a competition.
